Barr Associates is the world's largest independent manufacturer of precision thin film coatings and optical filters. We have an unmatched heritage in the optical filter and coating business with a strong track record spanning over 35 years of providing solutions and parts for some of the most challenging requirements. We service the leading players and innovators in virtually every major market where optical filters or thin film coatings are enabling technologies or components. Barr Associates was founded in 1971 by Edgar Barr, who was a pioneer in thin film filters, having started in the industry in the 1940s and setting up a thin films lab at Polaroid. He established Barr to provide band pass filters to the scientific community, which was in need of high performance filters at moderate cost. Ed enjoyed helping optimize the customers' performance and cost goals through heavy interaction and involvement with the customers. His character has laid the cornerstones of Barr's culture of seeking simple solutions to complex problems through the development of strong relationships with our customers.
TFT History
Thin Film Technology (TFT) is a leader in the development and deposition of high performance coatings used for critical applications in a variety of market spaces. From highly complex infrared optical thin film coatings for night vision and Thermography applications, to specialized thin film metallization schemes used on high performance aircraft, to flexible sensors that can be implanted into the human body, TFT has the expertise and technology to deliver a cutting edge thin film solution.
An innovator for more than 35 years, Thin Film Technology employs a variety of thin film coatings deposition techniques and state-of-the-art photolithography, as well as other value added process capabilities that can be combined to offer truly unique solutions. As part of the Williams Advanced Materials family of companies, TFT enjoys a unique position in the industry, offering ready access to thin film material experts who can help design custom material systems for individual customer applications.
