Metal Matrix Composites - Non-Beryllium Containing

Materion Brush Beryllium & Composites has developed a new family of non-beryllium metal matrix composites called SupremEX™. These metal matrix composites are used for complex system problems commonly solved with beryllium materials. SupremEX™ EX-B135H is manufactured by a powder metallurgy route to achieve, through solid state processing, a homogeneous dispersion of the Boron Carbide (B4C) reinforcement in a proprietary phase in an aluminum alloy (1050) metal matrix.

SupremEX™ utilizes pure aluminum and ultrafine reinforcements which increase the pure aluminum's strength and stiffness. Components manufactured with SupremEX™ can easily be attached to AlBeMet® 162, or beryllium for an athermalized system. Material properties are shown on Materion Brush Beryllium & Composites' New Materials Options chart.

The techniques for machining of aluminum MMCs are well established by many shops along a wide variety of MMC materials and additional information can be found in our machining guidelines.
