Plating

Plating

Plating is required as a wetting layer between the metallization layer and subsequent attachment operations, such as brazing. Electrolytic Sulfamate Nickel Plating is routinely performed at our in-house facility. Typical thickness is 100 to 300 microinches. The thickness is confirmed with state-of-the-art x-ray fluorescence equipment. Sintering of the nickel plating is recommended, and also performed in-house. We only offer nickel plating in-house, however we have arranged for gold, silver, and copper plating using outside services. A nickel oxide coating, which is applied using any of our metallizing techniques, is an alternative, but should be reserved for situations when plating is not feasible. This coating requires a sintering step to reduce the coating to pure nickel.

Reel-to-Reel Plating

Materion Technical Materials provides spot, stripe, and overall electroplating services on continuous reel-to-reel strip and stamped parts.  We offer a wide range of coatings including gold, silver, copper, nickel, and tin.
