Beryllium Beryllium Oxide

Beryllium Beryllium Oxide

Electronic Materials

Materion Brush Beryllium & Composites offers a family of metal matrix composites made up principally of beryllium and beryllium oxide (E-materials).  Three grades of E-materials are created with different volume percentage ratios of the two materials to tailor the specific physical, thermal and mechanical properties required.  The materials are produced by blending beryllium and beryllium oxide powders into a homogeneous mixture to create isotropy of physical and thermal properties.

The mix is then impact grinded into a powder; then canned, degassed, and HiP'd into stock blocks. The stock blocks are sliced into cards, which are then sawn to specified sizes, lapped and machined to final dimensions. The parts can then be plated in accordance with final termination specification as well.

Requirements for aircraft and satellite avionic packaging continue to challenge materials developers seeking higher packaging densities, lower delta junction temperature, higher heat loads, smaller and lighter packaging and other advanced surface mount technologies. To address these higher performance needs, developers continue to select Materion’s E-Materials. These materials offer the design engineer a combination of light weight, high thermal conductivity, tailorable coefficient of thermal expansion, high specific stiffness, thermal stability and mechanical properties with a high degree of isotropy.
