Core Technologies

Materion BARR Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings is a technology driven company that specializes in thin film optical filters and custom thin film deposition solutions.  We have a broad range of deposition and support technologies that are state of the art.

Sputter

Materion has a number of different sputtering technologies at it’s disposal including:

  • Ion Beam
  • Pulsed & non-pulsed DC
  • AC
  • RF
  • Diode
  • Triode
  • Magnetron
  • Reactive

Our optical chambers can be set up for planetary or flat wheel motion.  We can sputter optics up to 24” in diameter.  Our non-optical chambers are highly configurable and can be set up for planetary, flat wheel or barrel mounted rotation, as well as fixed, non-motion. We have the capability to sputter planar and non-conformal part configurations up to 48 inches. 

Evaporation

We can evaporate onto optical substrates up to 22” in diameter.  For non-optical substrates and coatings, we can evaporate onto surfaces up to 48” in size.  Several types of evaporation technologies are available:

  • Ion Assisted Deposition (IAD)
  • E-beam
  • Thermal Evaporation

Photolithography

Materion has an extensive photolithography capability for patterning thin films.

Patterned thin film coatings may be applied to a variety of substrate materials such as polymers, composites, metals, and glass. Patterning can be applied to planar, non-planar, compound surfaces on small to large area substrates. Once patterned, Materion has the capability to deposit both optical and non-optical thin films. Substrates up to 200mm can be patterned.

Electroplating

Broad range of electrolytic and electroless plating capabilities compliment our Physical Vapor deposition (PVD) thin film coatings.

  • E-less Ni and Au
