PerforMet™Alloy Compression Rings High Thermal Conductivity Improve Engine Performance

Piston DiagramMaterion’s PerforMet alloy, a new compression ring material, has high thermal conductivity to manage heat buildup in the piston better than conventional piston ring materials. Improved heat management means significantly reduced piston temperatures which, in turn, means reduced end-gas temperatures, improved knock resistance and enhanced engine efficiency.

PerforMet piston rings have additional attributes that optimize engine performance, including:

Ability to function without a coating  Reduced cost; fewer failure modes
Lower modulus Improved conformability to the bore / liner
Lower coefficient of friction Reduced groove and liner wear
Coefficient of thermal expansion more nearly matching aluminum Reduced blowby derived from reduced ring groove clearances
