Copper beryllium (CuBe) alloys are very beneficial and essential in today’s most demanding electronics applications. And future innovations will require CuBe alloys to ensure high reliability and miniaturization. Microelectronics devices made with CuBe alloys are more energy efficient, conserve natural resources and have longer product life. Other benefits include:

  • There are no legislative bans or restrictions on copper beryllium (CuBe) alloys.   CuBe alloys are not included in any special end-of-life requirements or restrictions in the final European Union (EU) directives on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV).
  • CuBe Alloys were not included in the proposed revisions to the European Union (EU) directives on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS).  CuBe alloys were not included in the EU RoHS Recast approved by the European Council on May 27, 2011.   • There are no industry guidelines that restrict or ban CuBe.   CuBe alloys are not banned, restricted or otherwise limited by the Joint Industry Guide for Material Composition Declaration in Electronic Products (JIG).
  • Handling CuBe alloys in solid form and as finished parts poses no special health risks.   Most manufacturing operations, including precision stamping, are capable of safely processing CuBe alloys. However, there are some processes that will require controls to minimize potential exposure risks.
  • Materion has addressed the substances in CuBe alloys under the EU Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of  Chemicals (REACH) regulation.  REACH is legislation approved by the European Union (EU) that is designed to provide safety, health, environmental  and use information about chemical substances to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
