To supply a stable electrical contact over long periods of time in extremely harsh environments Materion has created a Stainless Steel strip inlaid with high performance Au alloys as well as Stainless Steel strip electroplated with pure Au.

To provide high-temperature fuel cell assemblies with robust formability and weldability as well as excellent corrosion protection, Materion has developed an Aluminum inlay clad in Stainless Steel combined with a Ni overlay which creates an extremely corrosion-resistant intermetallic compound after thermally diffusing the alloys at high temperature.

To simplify and improve welding reliability in OEM medical device assembly by eliminating dissimilar metal welding, Materion has fabricated bimetal components using electron beam welding and inlay cladding processes to create robust interconnects between Titanium-based power sources and Niobium lead wires in cardiac and neural implants.

To produce a material system that combines excellent electrical contact resistance with high-resistivity sections, Materion clads selective inlays of high-performance precious metal alloys into high-resistance substrates which can then be rolled down to foils less than .001" thick.  Thin foils of high-resistance alloys can then be stamped as thin filaments complete with high-reliability electrical connection tabs.

To provide a high-current electrical contact with limited normal force requirements as well as make-and-break capabilities, Materion produces a material that combines a highly-conductive base material with either an inlay or welded system with Ag or Ag metal oxide materials, optimizing precious metal usage and eliminating multi-piece assemblies.

To provide a material system that will function at very low currents with very low contact forces and no change in contact resistance, Materion has developed a material that has a selective noble alloy in the contact area that functions without change in contact resistance over time and temperature.  Inlays of Au or Au alloys are commonly used as well as Au electroplating.  The use of alloys maintains performance while significantly lowering precious metal costs associated with pure Au or Ag.

SWITCHES AND CONTACTS - RELAYS

To eliminate assembly and replace a three-piece relay of base plate, spring arm, and discrete electrical contact with a single material for stamping, Materion offers an electron beam welded strip with a thin gauge, high-performance alloy creating the reed portion of the relay with integral inlaid precious metal alloy to form contact points.  This component is pre-welded to a less-expensive heavy copper alloy comprising the thicker terminal plate.
 Inlay or Toplay Solders

INLAY OR TOPLAY SOLDERS

To eliminate solder pastes or pre-forms that would result in additional assembly costs or create yield losses due to variability of solder volume and locations, Materion offers a pre-solder strip either as an inlay or toplay.  The solder is precisely placed on the strip prior to stamping, and pre-fluxing of solder stripes further simplifies assembly and improves final product yield.
