MOLDMAX® ALLOY PROVIDES STRENGTH & CONDUCTIVITY FOR BLOW MOLDING

The MoldMAX product line, MoldMAX HH®, MoldMAX LH®, MoldMAX V®MoldMAX XL® and PROtherm® alloys provides strength and wear resistance similar to that of many tool steels, but with thermal conductivity that is up to ten times greater.

In addition to plastics blow molding applications, MoldMAX V alloy has been used by race teams to improve performance on the track. By changing out the materials used to make engine components such as valve seats and guides to MoldMAX V alloy, teams in Formula 1, Le Mans, NASCAR, MotoGP and other racing classes have been able to maintain optimum engine efficiency longer. We recently optimized MoldMAX V alloy specifically for automotive applications and named it PerforMet™ alloy. Learn more.

FASTER CYCLE TIME & IMPROVED PART QUALITY

In blow molds, MoldMAX alloys wears better, has improved conductivity and corrosion resistance than aluminum. In pinch-offs and neck rings, these alloys are more conductive than steel, which means faster cycle times, less maintenance and improved part quality.

EXCELLENT MACHINABILITY

All MoldMAX alloys have excellent machinability. In conventional machining operations, MoldMAX alloy provides a reduction in machining time over tool steels. While the high thermal conductivity of MoldMAX alloy makes it slower to electrical discharge machine than steel, set up can be optimized to minimize this difference.

UNIFORM MICROSTRUCTURE RESISTS CHIPPING & PITTING

MoldMAX alloys are hot worked to ensure a more uniform microstructure that resists chipping and pitting better than other molding alloys.

CORROSION RESISTANCE

The copper base in MoldMAX alloys provide excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid, carbonic acid and similar decomposition products that can result from the plastic molding process. As a result, these materials are ideal for applications involving potentially corrosive plastics such as PVC.

WEAR AND GALLING RESISTANCE FOR EXTENDED MOLD LIFE

Strategic location of MoldMAX components and inserts in aluminum blow molds improves parting line maintenance and provides longer service life.
