Nanotechnology Initiative by Materion Microelectronics and Services
Nanotechnology covers functional materials, devices and systems through the control of matter on the nanometer (1 to 100+nm) scale and the exploitation of novel properties and phenomena developed at that size. We currently supply PVD materials to customers that are making devices in this size range. The global nano market is being monitored by Materion Microelectronics & Services to explore the expected emergence and development of numerous technologies, ranging from color shift paints (nano metallic particles) to biomedical sensors and devices. Nanotechnology: Next Industrial Revolution Nanotechnology is seen as the next industrial revolution, with the U.S. government allocating almost $5 billion to put us at the forefront of this new technology. New nanotechnologies are being explored at the university level, with New York State establishing a Nanotechnology Center of Excellence in Albany. Hundreds of companies have emerged over the past few years, fueled by venture capital and our government’s R&D grants. Foreign countries have been almost as generous (and considering purchasing power even more generous) in their rush to move to the forefront in this revolutionary technology. As a major supplier of PVD materials to universities and industrial companies, Materion Microelectronics & Services is already at the forefront of nanotechnology.
