Our Operations

Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact

Materion supports the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact. We conduct our business activities in accordance with these values. We also expect our business partners and suppliers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with principles expressed in this Policy. We are committed to:

  • Producing materials that enable technologies to provide a safer and more sustainable environment.

  • Designing, manufacturing and distributing products in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

  • Respecting and protecting human rights wherever we operate.

  • Embracing a set of values where we partner in the betterment of our communities.

  • Maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and security.

  • Continuously promoting fair dealing and respect towards our customers, shareholders, employees, business partners and communities.

Preserve and Protect
Materion has a responsibility to respect the local, regional and national environmental laws and regulations established to preserve the natural environment, and are committed to 100% compliance with all permits and licenses issued to our facilities. That commitment includes the responsible consumption and management of essential natural resources like water, where we are always seeking to conserve its use across our operations and manage water and wastewater responsibly.
Recycling and Minimizing Waste
The generation, management and disposal of solid wastes from our operations has the potential to impact the public health and environment in our local communities. We are therefore committed to minimizing the generation of solid wastes from our operations and to safely manage these solid wastes using a hierarchy of environmentally sound management practices, including ISO 14001 and Lean Sigma. We also believe that finding alternative uses for waste materials and byproducts presents the greatest opportunities to minimize the impact of these wastes and to further contribute to a circular economy.
Managing Emissions and Energy
We have a responsibility to manage our operations to minimize the generation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the associated impacts on climate change, public health and the environment. Our concerns for these potential impacts will drive our plans and activities to reduce our emissions to sustainable levels. Many of our manufacturing processes are also heavily dependent on energy and we understand that improved energy efficiency and reduced usage provides economic as well as environmental benefits including reduced GHG emissions. We are committed to investigating and implementing approaches to reduce our overall energy intensity and usage of non-renewable energy sources, as well as increase our use of renewable energy.
