TOUGHMET® ALLOYS OFFER HIGH STRENGTH AND RELIABILITY FOR AEROSPACE COMPONENTS

Materion has more than 30 years’ experience designing and commercializing alloys, including ToughMet® alloys, which have enabled advances in the aerospace industry. Used on all models of aircraft, ToughMet alloys optimize aircraft design, increase reliability and improve component performance.

ToughMet alloys have superior friction characteristics that make them ideal for bearings and bushings for components of aircraft landing gear and airfoil controls. The materials exhibit stable properties over the wide range of temperatures encountered during flight, and they can operate safely and reliably for extended periods of time in the event of lubrication failure. ToughMet alloys do not contain lead or other hazardous materials.

ToughMet alloys meet all relevant Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS) and are approved for use in major commercial and military programs.

Use our Aerospace Reference Sheet to see aerospace specifications, forms and sizes for all our aerospace alloys.

TOUGHMET ALLOY ATTRIBUTES

ToughMet copper-nickel-tin alloys have a unique combination of properties that enhance the performance of aerospace applications:

  • High strength to handle heavy loads and stress
  • Stable properties in changing temperatures
  • Very low friction and minimal wear for higher reliability and improved durability
  • Corrosion resistance to typical service environments
  • High galling resistance for movement of parts, even under heavy loads
