HIGH PERFORMANCE TOUGHMET® ALLOYS FOR OIL & GAS APPLICATIONS
The oil and gas industry requires materials that stand up in the most rugged and complex environments in the world. Delays or accidents stemming from equipment wear, malfunction or failure can have severe economic and environmental implications. Reliability of critical equipment is an absolute necessity that requires the right material.
ToughMet 3 copper-nickel-tin alloys are spinodally hardened, providing attributes beyond those typically found in high-strength copper alloys, including:
- Tensile and fatigue strength even at elevated temperatures
- Corrosion, erosion and wear resistance in most oilfield environments
- Control fluid compatibility
- Magnetic transparency
- Anti-friction and anti-galling characteristics
- Excellent machinability
THE LATEST TOUGHMET INNOVATIONS
We engineered two new forms of ToughMet 3 alloys (UNS C72900) specifically for oil and gas exploration, drilling, completion and production. ToughMet 3 TS95 and TS120U alloy are wrought, spinodally hardened alloys that provide high-impact strength and crack-propagation resistance.
These new materials outperform other high-strength alloys, extending the reach and accuracy of oil and gas drilling tools and increasing the reliability of well control, completion and production.

LEARN WHY HESS ENGINEERS CHOSE TOUGHMET COUPLINGS FOR DEVIATED WELLS
ToughMet 3 Alloy Sucker Rod Couplings were engineered to eliminate production interruptions caused by sucker rod coupling and production tubing failures in deviated shale wells.
Learn more about these breakthrough sucker rod couplings.
TOUGHMET SUCKER ROD COUPLING
In field tests, wells with ToughMet® 3 TS95 sucker rod couplings needed fewer workovers & had on average a 12.6% increase in production & 20.6% improvement of system efficiency.

BETTER CORROSION RESISTANCE
ToughMet 3 alloys resist saltwater corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement and chloride stress corrosion cracking better than other copper alloys. They exhibit low general weight loss in extreme chloride and high pH drilling fluids and resist moderate hydrogen sulfide environments at low pH.
To optimize your corrosion resistance parts, follow our ToughMet Alloy Machining Guide.
AVAILABLE TOUGHMET FORMS
ToughMet 3 alloys are available in plate, rod, tube, bar, hollow bar, wire, strip and a variety of continuous or investment cast shapes. Mechanical properties may vary by product size, form and temper. Please see data sheets for specific values. We can also supply rough or finish machined parts to meet customer supplied drawings.
