ALUMINUM TWIN WIRE ARC SPRAY COATING YIELDS HIGHEST PRECIOUS METAL RETURNS
Materion’s precision parts cleaning service offers our customers a single source for chamber parts cleaning and thin film deposition materials recovery. Complementing our precious metals recovery and refining services, we also provide in-house aluminum twin wire arc spray coating (Al TWAS) services. Al TWAS can benefit your process by increasing machine up-time by improving deposition adhesion and reducing particulation – ultimately helping to lower total cost of ownership.
HOW ALUMINUM TWIN ARC SPRAY COATING WORKS
Twin wire arc spray is beneficial to Materion customers who use PVD process tools for producing coatings in the semiconductor industries. Unlike other thermal spray processes, Al TWAS does not use external heat sources. Rather, the heating and melting occur when two electrically opposed charged metal wires are fed together so a controlled arc occurs at intersection. This molten metal is atomized and propelled onto the prepared shield substrate by jets of compressed air or gas. Materion offers an automated system utilizing a robotic arm for proper positioning to meet stringent customer specifications for coating thickness and surface roughness uniformity.
